Latest graduation news
The following shows what our university graduates have achieved, thanks to your support:
Teachers: Ireen Miteche, Violet Mlozi, Grace Kwanjana, James Mphaya and Dyton Liphale graduated in B Ed.
Social Worker: Amadu Bwanali graduated in B Social Science, works in CAMFED as its District Operations Officer.CAMFED is a foreign-funded NGO whose work is to look after vulnerable young females.
Midwives: Brenda Jeremia & Keith Mwithiwa both graduated in B Sc (Nursing & Midwifery). Brenda is now in charge of an antenatal care ward which has 60 beds at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the leading hospital in Blantyre. She is also in charge of the newly installed ultrasound scanning division. Keith works for Malawi Aids Counselling & Resource Organization as a project officer responsible for coordinating HIV testing services in Lilongwe, the capital and largest city in Malawi. He is chairing FOCHTA’s board of trustees. According to Keith, the prevalent rate of HIV 20 years ago was 178%. To date, it is 8.9% with 946,000 adults living with HIV/AIDS.
Livestock officer: Charles Sokoso works for an American funded farm-animal organization called Village in Partnership Organization.
Irrigation engineer: Austin Kambalame graduated in B Sc - Irrigation Engineering, is now working as an Irrigation engineer for the government.
Obstetrician: Funani Malata graduated in B Sc - Gynaecology & Obstetrics. Prior to that, he had studied clinical science and worked as a clinical officer, He is now in charge of an obstetric department in a large district hospital. He was also recently put in charge of controlling & treating cholera in his district, as the epidemic has killed nearly 1,400 people in the last three months. There are now over 42,000 cases.
Biomedical engineer: Ganizano Mingo is now working in a district hospital.
Theologian: Innocent has just graduated in B Theology.
Physiotherapist: Aaron Mwafulirwa has just graduated in M Sc - Physiotherapy, in a university in South Africa. He is currently a lecturer at the College of Medicine at Blantyre, the second largest city in Malawi.
Scientist: Treaser Thomas is working as a researcher in an NGO. She did B Sc at the Chancellor College.
Statistician: Clara Lemani obtained MSc - Statistical Science in Cape Town University and is working as a project & research management officer in a HIV institution funded by an American university.
Nutritionist: Chifundo Makwinja obtained B Sc - Nutrition & Food Science. He is now working in the Kalemba Mission Hospital as a Food for Health program officer with an added duty in overseeing nutritional matters. He is also in charge of supervising two health centres.
Agriculturists: Wilson Saikonde and Siyani George obtained B Sc - Agriculture. Wilson works for the Ministry of Agriculture as Crops officer.
Economist: Chifuniro obtained his B Sc-Business Commerce, and has since been working in a commercial firm.
There are also over 200 students who have completed diploma courses such as in primary school teaching, clinical science, journalism, nursing, community development, accountancy, electrical installation, etc.
Appointments: Henry Kandammanja has been appointed as our program officer. Henry graduated in B Sc - Land Economy. He has since brought his methodical skills to oversee all our student beneficiaries.
One of the things that we at FOCHTA is proud of is to have the majority of board members being graduates who have been our beneficiaries.
