James Mphaya’s story
My life was a struggle until I was taken under FOCHTA’s wing.
I was born in Chilemba Village, Thylo district.
My parents died in 2003 when I was in Standard 4. My siblings and I were cared for by a ralative, who was unable to find work. Some of us would visit neighbours’ fields and were given maize bran in return for our casual labour; I was forced to miss school at times, being without a uniform.
I gained entry to secondary school, and only with FOCHTA’s support was I able to attend class. FOCHTA has supported me through secondary school and university. I have a Bachelor of Science Agronomy. Currently I am working at Nang’ombe Community Day Secondary School on a volunteer basis, and mentor FOCHTA beneficiaries at this school.
