Grandmothers keep goats
Grandmothers, or in Malawi, Gogos, groups give these vitally important women peer support in their struggles to care for orphaned grandchildren. Activities include helping others in their communities and supporting them in income generating activities, goats being a valuable resource.
By September 2009, 165 of the most destitute ladies had received a nanny goat in the revolving goat program. FOCHTA has bought a total of 122 goats and 43 kids have been born. The nanny goats are returned to the central pool after kidding, and so passed to other needy families.
