Brenda Jeremiah

Brenda Jeremiah was one of two students whom we have supported in their education starting from secondary school to then obtaining a degree in B Sc - Nursing & Midwifery.

After Brenda graduated in 2014, she has been working in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital which is the largest hospital in Blantyre, with 1,400 beds. Blantyre is the second largest city in Malawi, with population of over 800,000.

Brenda’s current position is the senior nursing officer. She works in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology that is comprised of eight wards which in total has 330 beds. Those wards include antenatal, gynaecology, labour & delivery, postnatal, high dependence unit for maternity mothers, neonatal, maternity isolation and other family planning & antenatal clinics. Her job is for managing staffing resource allocation, performance appraisals, task distribution, co-ordinating in-house training and first line disciplines.

For your information, the birthrate per 1000 in Malawi is 26.6 comparing to that in Australia, per 1,000 is 11.939.

Brenda is married with two children. As she recently said when shown photos of her earlier life, “I am shedding tears, smiling and laughing at the same time! I am so grateful. These memories so remind me of where I came from, the possibility of one person and one organization to change stories of so many people which greatly fueled my passion for others. Thank you again for bringing out a full life in me!”.

FOCHTA is also honored to have Brenda serving as a member of its Board of Trustees. This position can give immeasurable inspiration to those underprivileged children who are following her footsteps.
