A Truly Resilient Young Lady

Our student beneficiary Alambeje has been very physically disabled since childhood. She uses a wheelchair and must be assisted in every-day chores, including being lifted from the wheelchair to her bed. But she is a very resilient young woman and has managed too complete her secondary schooling. This was made easier for her by FOCHTA arranging to send her to study in a boarding school. And she has been blessed by having good friends who attended to her daily needs. But even during school holidays, she never missed attending talks and workshops organised by us even though that would require her to travel by wheelchair for many kilometres, all be it assisted by a friend.

Recently, FOCHTA was pleased to receive consent from TEVETA ( Technical & Entrepreneurial & Vocational Education & Training Authority of Malawi) to sponsor her to do a course in Administrative Studies in the MAOHA Technical School for students with disabilities. She was assisted in completing the application formalities by Biswick Kabambe, our tailoring teacher, who himself needs a wheelchair. There, she will be looked after totally by the school. As a parting gift, FOCHTA has obtained for her a new wheelchair that has been donated by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

A New Nursing & Midwifery Student

Fyness Kazembe, a former FOCHTA secondary school beneficiary, has been allocated a place at the reputable Malamulo College of Health Sciences to do a diploma course in nursing and midwifery, a three year course. This has been made possible through a grant from USAID. In fact quite a number of our beneficiaries have studied at this college to obtain nursing and clinical science certificates.

Gift Bokosi

Since obtaining a certificate to practice as a clinical officer, he is now studying medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Malawi. Recently Gift paid a visit to our FOCHTA office when he remarked that  “ FOCHTA has laid a foundation to my current academic and professional status to become what I am today. Bravo FOCHTA! “

FOCHTA would like to wish these students every success in their studies.
