A new partnership with Komai in the United States.
The Komai collaboration project is an exciting and innovative program which will build on children’s musical talents.
Children in the Thyolo district have little access to a creative arts education, yet creative expression expands children’s ability to interact with the world around them, it cultivates communication and problem solving skills, and most importantly, is a source of happiness and inspiration.
With this in mind, Komai, based in the United States, has suggested a partnership with FOCHTA to bring music programs to the children of Thyolo.
In the pilot program, which we hope will start in 2013, interested local teachers would work with visiting teachers and musicians in a chosen primary school, Komai providing funding.
The curriculum might include basic music education, traditional and western sounds, instruments and song, instrument making sessions, group performance, jam sessions, etc.
We would hope to eventually expand the program throughout Thyolo primary schools.
